"There is more to life than increasing its speed." - Mahatma Ghandi

This is a lesson that I've come to learn over the years. When we're kids, we're in a rush to become teenagers, and when we're teenagers, we're in a rush to become "adults", and when we're adults, we find ourselves longing to relive the days when we were young. We'll never win because we always find ourselves either dwelling on the past or yearning for the future. Now, if you've been a consistent reader of this blog, you would know by now, my constant struggle between youth and adulthood. I've always referred to myself as being "in between."

I haven't blogged much since last October. My blog has been pretty bare. Now, I could blame that on the fact that I've been working everyday. I could also dismiss it as just me being lazy. However, I'm beginning to feel that my lack of urgency to blog stems from the urgency to get up and do something with my life. All throughout college, this blog has served as a means for me to vent my frustrations, dream out loud, make plans, share my innermost thoughts, feelings, and experiences, tell stories, and basically just figure out who I am as a friend, daughter, sister, girlfriend, and person. It's been a journal/diary/planner/post-it/blueprint. It was a huge part of me in HS and college... and it still is. But I feel like life after college has encouraged me to stop thinking (or in this case, writing) and start doing.

I'd like to think that my priorities have shifted a bit. Rather than living out my day for the sake of writing about it, I'm now experiencing life without the pressing need to blog about every single detail. I'm not saying that I plan on abandoning my blog altogether. I just needed to take a break and adjust to my work schedule and life.

I still can't believe that I'm (only) 24 years old (already). That statement changes according to who I talk to. My coworkers all think I'm still a baby. Friends who are still in college think I'm ancient. But I think that I'm the right age. I would agree with both sets of opinions. I may still be young enough to grab drinks during happy hour after work with friends or hit up lounges/bars on the weekend but I'm also old enough to acknowledge that I still have the responsibility of waking up and going to work the next morning. I'm young enough to splurge a little extra money on nice clothes & purses or pricey concert tickets but I'm also old enough to know that I have loans and bills to pay. I'm young enough to eat fatty foods every once in a while but I'm also old enough to know that my age is quickly catching up with me and I have to fit in time to exercise and throw in veggies & fruits in order to keep my body healthy. After graduating from college, I wasn't quite sure what to expect out of life. I was anxious, scared, excited, uncertain... but these are feelings that tend to pop up every time you go through some sort of life transition or rite of passage.

All I know is that right now, I'm happy. I am relatively healthy. I have a stable, decent-paying job that I love. I have a car that works. I have supportive, loving parents who allow me to live at home and don't mind feeding me. I have an amazing brother who is also a built-in best friend and who would do anything for me, even if he won't admit it. I am surrounded by a great and diverse group of friends who are there for me when it counts and who constantly show me love. I have an unbelievably incredible boyfriend who loves me for who I am and who encourages me to be a better person everyday. God's blessed me with so much in the past 24 years. I'm forever grateful. Now I don't have to wonder if I'll live to see 24...because I am.

P.S. Even though I'm "in between"... and I want to look older but be younger (if that makes sense)...I have a newfound commitment to enjoy what's left of my youth. They say "youth is wasted on the young." Let's be the exception to that.

And count each birthday with a grateful mind."

Good thing I’m turning 24 then. Hello golden birthday! 24 years old on the 24th. Every birthday is bittersweet. I love starting fresh and having a new year to grow, learn, & re-invent myself but each new year means another year older. I suppose I’ve come to terms with the fact that I can never be forever 21… but man, when I’m 80 years old, I still hope to be forever young. Thank you God for all the blessings you’ve given me in the past year, especially for those little blessings in disguise. I hope to take advantage of all the new opportunities that are presented to me in 2011… and as a 24 year old.

So scared of getting older
I’m only good at being young
So I play the numbers game to find away to say that life has just begun
Had a talk with my old man
Said help me understand
He said turn 68, you’ll renegotiate
Don’t stop this train
Don’t for a minute change the place you’re in…
