My weekend was what some people might've described as uneventful BUT I enjoyed it because...
  • I went to my new dentist & I love her. I don't need any more fillings (just have to get one of them replaced) but I do have to get my wisdom teeth out soon. Oh well.
  • I was able to get a good workout in yesterday! I am now sore today.
  • I visited Brenton in La Mirada! He brought back some pasalubong. He got me these cute handmade notebooks (I told him I wanted cute stationary lol), a keychain and a shirt for work! I'm happy he's back. We had frostbites and tried this Korean pizza & chicken restaurant called Love Letter. We had their sweet potato pizza which was surprisingly delicious.
  • I finally cleaned my room.
  • I got to see Angie & Janice at Scoops for a little bit.
  • My mom and I had a lovely brunch at Panera this afternoon after mass.
  • I watched a new episode of Sonny with a Chance AND I'm almost done with season 1 of HIMYM.
Thanks God for a relaxing weekend off of work. Tomorrow it's back to the computers. Yeah, I'm pretty much an IT tech... seriously. It's kinda funny.

Have a great week!

With a dozen roses, make sure that she knows it
From the bottom of my heart
I send you my love
Don't hold back the feelings
There's so many reasons why we shouldn't be apart

Quite often it is only when something bad happens that we turn our attention to what's important, or who's important in our lives. For many of us, it's only when something bad happens that we turn our attention back towards God. It's true. Before I landed my first full-time job, I went to Wednesday night Novenas at IHM religiously. While working that job, my late hours didn't allow for me to attend those masses anymore and I didn't even bother trying to find a way to fill that void. I convinced myself I was too busy or too tired. All of a sudden, God came second to my job. However, when I lost that job, who did I turn to again for comfort and strength? God. And who listened to my prayers & blessed me with an even better opportunity? God. And who did I neglect again once I got caught up in the routine of things? God. And who's always there with open arms welcoming me back? God.

Two weeks ago, Fr. Kevin told us that we, as humans, are only "a pain away from God" because when life gets tough, it is then that we decide to turn to Him. He compared it to bill collectors who never send you a congratulatory note in the mail when you pay your bills on time...but God forbid you miss one payment because then you receive the warning notices reminding you to pay. It's like they conveniently disregard the fact that prior to this late payment, you had been paying your bills on time every month for the past 10 years. In that sense, we are like the bill collectors. When things aren't going our way, we remember God and we continuously bombard him with prayers that we want answered on our time. What Fr. Kevin was getting at was that why wait until something bad happens before we turn to God? Why wait until we are at our lowest to praise Him or acknowledge Him? Fr. Kevin told us to "Live Thanks" rather than "Give Thanks." By that, he was referring to be grateful to Him every day of your life and live that gratitude and appreciation. Foster your relationship with God EVERY day not just on your bad days. He ended with a story about a wedding he presided over in which the bride fainted during the ceremony and was out for about 3 minutes. She hadn't eaten and was weak but the ceremony was able to continue smoothly without a hitch (aside from her fainting). During the homily, Fr. Kostelnik told them that although they had a 64 min. ceremony instead of a 60 min. ceremony, everything worked out as planned and he reminded them to focus on the 61 minutes celebrated in Love rather than the 3 minutes of disruption. It was a good reminder. Let's focus on the positive rather than the negative and let's not wait until we're down before we decide to re-ignite our relationship with Him.

Last weekend was AMAZING. I do love weddings... and I also love my crazy family. They drive me crazy but I think I'd go crazy without them. I'm so happy for Lionel & Kimi. I'll recap later this week. But for now, good night. Miss you folks!

P.S. I realized after the wedding that I miss lectoring for mass.

P.P.S. I am working in the IT dept covering for a coworker on maternity leave and I have no idea what I'm doing a lot of the time lol.

P.P.P.S. Brenton's coming back tomorrow! :)

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

Just wanted to commemorate this day.

I kicked off the weekend with happy hour at the Library Bar with my co-workers. FUN TIMES. I spent the rest of my weekend shopping for a dress/shoes/accessories for my cousin's wedding. It was difficult.

The end.

I've been avoiding the internet lately partially because I've been too lazy or too tired to log into my laptop. In fact, I've been using our home computer this past week instead of my Macbook. It's been an eventful week. For starters, it was a stressful week at work. I spent the whole week covering for my coworker who went on vacation and let's just say that invoices and excel are not my friend. I've had to use excel for almost every job/internship that I've had and I'm still getting the hang of it or trying to. I feel like I need to take a class in order to learn everything I need to know about that program. There are way too many shortcuts that I haven't been able to figure out. However, I do know the basics. That has to count for something right?

Despite settling into my job, I can't help but feel paranoid and think the worst. Ever since I got laid off a few months ago, the uncertainty and instability of being a new hire alongside the worsening status of the economy will always be in the back of my mind. I can't help but feel like I have to prepare myself for the worse despite hearing great things from coworkers and my bosses. I have to shake that feeling off and just remind myself to do my best and think positive. Hopefully it shows in the work that I produce...which reminds me that Oct. 10th marks my 2-month anniversary at work.

Last Sunday I went to the Vampire Weekend concert with my cousin, Angie & Joe. It was fun times all around. It was such a fun concert. Lots of dancing, especially from that guy in front of us. He was just as entertaining as the band.

On Monday, I hung out with Brenton and we had Scoops before he left for the Philippines. I know GP has been bugging me about whether I miss him yet. I guess it started to hit me today just because the last time I talked to him was on Friday morning or was it Thursday morning? I don't remember. I DO miss him but I'm glad he's over there having fun! Hopefully he comes back to California feeling renewed and refreshed and ready to take on what life has in store for him. October 19th will come before we know it.

On Tuesday, I was lucky enough to see Sara Bareilles perform live with my ring sis and friends from HS! I'd have to say that out of all the concerts I've been to, hers was definitely up there on my list of all-time favorite concerts. If you ever get a chance to see her perform, please do!! She sounds even better live than on her CD's. It helps that she seems so down-to-earth and humble. I always have a soft-spot for artists /celebrities like that. Did I mention that she's a self-proclaimed feminist? EVEN BETTER. Her songs speak to me and for me. I love her.

On Wednesday, my brother visited me at work and brought me and Katrina Cha Cha Cha and Scoops. My co-worker said "wow your brother must love you" and I replied "he better!" lol. I love that guy too.

On Thursday I got to hang out with GP and the rest of the LoG oldies at some bar in LA. It was fun even though I was pretty sleepy the next day. Worth it! On Friday, I got to see some of them again plus a few other familiar faces. We had Pink's and then I got into Cat and Fiddle in spite of my juvenile outfit (gLee T-Shirt, BSB hoodie, teal chucks, and shorts) yeah... I promise I'm over 21. Anyway we also went to El Gran. I'm glad I got to celebrate Julian's bday with him! I hadn't seen him in forever!!! Liwanag really is for life. I believe that more and more. They've been my friends since I was 18...wow 5 years ago.

On Saturday, I woke up early and hit the gym with Kristina who always seems to push me to work out even harder because I'm incredibly sore today. I love working out with her and having our life chats though. After that my brother and I treated my mom out to Hokkaido, her new favorite restaurant. Then we came home and I seriously napped from 4 or 5 until 7pm. I was tired. We went shopping at Fresh and Easy.

Today we went to mass, then I spent the entire day searching for a dress for my cousin's wedding. We literally went to Santa Anita mall, then the Glendale Galleria/Americana where I finally found my dress. I'm not 100% in love with it... but I'm sure it'll do. It's a plain black dress but I guess once I accessorize, it'll look better. After that we went grocery shopping at Whole Foods (I love that place!!) and we had dinner there too.

I've just been unwinding and now I'm getting ready for bed. It's been a crazy week. I hope this week is nice to me.

Please pray for everyone this week! We'll get through it!

Today during the homily, Fr. Francis reminded us not to grow tired of serving. He acknowledged that sometimes serving can be difficult because to serve means to love, which requires sacrifice. But during the moments when we feel as though we can no longer go on or continue serving, we must turn to the true source that is God. Human love knows limits but God's Love does not. He is Love and that Love is unconditional. I need to remember not to turn to material or insignificant things. Maybe that's why I've been so tired lately. "We can't give what we don't have." When we allow ourselves to remain tired, we are closing ourselves off to Him and we are hardening our hearts. Today I heard His voice and I'm learning to open myself up and allow Him to capture my heart again.

May we all have a blessed week.
